The Trail
Ōtākou – Otago
Te Araroa in Otago passes mountains, forests, lakes and goldmining history.
The tracks range from the rigours of the Motatapu Track to easy strolling
alongside the Hawea and Clutha Rivers.
Then it winds around Lakes Wanaka and Wakatipu.
The trail passes through resort towns brimming with opportunities for other recreational activities. This is an area renowned as a tourist magnet, and for good reason.
Te Araroa leaves Otago on the Mavora Walkway. The Greenstone Track gives entry
into an extensive beech forest. It continues on through an impressive glacier-planed valley.
