The Twain Track
Finance Minister Michael Cullen and lands Minister John Tamihere today approved the sale of the Motatapu and Soho stations to country pop singer Shania Twain and Robert 'Mutt' Lange.
The conditions of sale - approved by the Overseas Investment Commission as meeting the national interest test - will see:
1) All land over 1100 metres on the two properties retired from farming.
(2) An easement put in place for Te Araroa's route between Wanaka and Arrowtown, with the Langes also funding construction of the track, plus two huts and associated facilities.
(3) 4,000 hectares of the property adjacent to the track being open to public access.
