Trail Status Update 2

Walkers can once again enjoy the full length of Te Araroa trail, including tracks within the Auckland region.

The Government announced yesterday that the community cases of COVID-19 identified in South Auckland earlier this month are now under control. As a result, Auckland has joined the rest of New Zealand at COVID-19 Alert Level 1.

At Alert Level 1, there are no COVID-related restrictions on walking in the outdoors. Huts, campsites, lodges and toilets managed by the Department of Conservation are open and people are welcome to head into the hills to explore our beautiful country.

However, it is important to maintain vigilance against the virus. Walkers should continue to practise good hand hygiene and, as always, should stay home if unwell.

Please continue to use the NZ COVID Tracer App to scan QR codes on your mobile phone where available and switch on Bluetooth to make contact tracing easier if it is required in future.

Happy hiking!

Executive Director, Te Araroa Trust
