Invercargill - Bluff link

  • 05 Sep 2008

Environment Southland council has voted "up to $15,000" to study a walking track route from Invercargill to Bluff.

Chief Executive Ciaran Keogh said he'd discussed the idea with his counterparts at the Invercargill City Council and the Department of Conservation. The new track would follow the New River estuary from the existing walkway to Omaui, then link with the Greenhills walkway to Bluff.

The track would be the final section of Te Araroa, the NZ-long trail, Mr Keogh said. It would open access to a beautiful and historic area that the public didn't normally see.

Councillors agreed to allocate up to $15,000 from the Marine Fee Reserve to investigate the proposal and assess the possibility of partnerships with other agencies.
