Seeking people with governance experience and an affinity for outdoor recreation and walking

We are seeking applications for Te Araroa National Trust board, which provides governance over Aotearoa New Zealand’s internationally recognised long-distance walking trail.

We would like to hear from people who have governance experience and an affinity for outdoor recreation and walking. The ideal applicant will also have demonstrable experience in one or more of the following: not-for-profit fundraising, health and safety, commercial acumen in developing corporate sponsorships and partnerships Te Ao Māori, working in partnerships with iwi and hapū.

Whilst this is a national trust, we have identified gaps in the lower North Island and the South Island and would be interested in also hearing from people in, or with a strong connection to, those locations

Te Araroa is New Zealand’s national walking trail, traversing 3000 km from the northern cape of Te Rerenga Wairua, to the southern bluff of Motupōhue. Opened in 2011, it has been rated among the top walks in the world by CNN and National Geographic for scenic beauty and the way it connects walkers with communities, cultures, the natural environment and historic sites.

Te Araroa Trust has a small staff, and relies extensively on the work of volunteers through a network of active regional trusts to sustain, promote and support the trail as an inspiring iconic representation of the geographic and cultural diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand.

If you are interested in joining our national trust, please apply through Appoint Better Boards or send your CV and covering letter to board@teararoa.org.nz

Applications close 5pm on Friday May 24
